With the combined talents of Dorette Roos (Cape Town Philharmonic), Carol Thorns (Electric Cello Pioneer and SAMA Nominee) and Anjulie Nock (Cellist and Composer), Rosanthorn is a new offering on the South African music scene that fans await with eager anticipation.
These three cellists share an exciting vision for the Cello – to revisit and reposition an instrument which is often overlooked. Rosanthorn have set out on a compositional and technical journey to explore all the Cello has to offer across multiple genres and timbres.
Rosanthorn’s repertoire includes original music and re-interpretations of works as varied as Imogen Heap’s Hide & Seek, Sia's Chandelier, and Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah. Anjulie Nock composed Night Journey (with a stirring Game of Thrones feel) and the Tango, Umdaniso Dolore (think Scent of A Woman for Cello). The Parting, is a reflective, stripped-down, soulful composition which inspired their first music video of the same name.
“The sound of the three cello’s together, is exquisite. This project is musically satisfying and a pleasure to record – I predict that Rosanthorn is going to be the talk of the town”, says composer Helmut Meier.
